Jesus has been on the move, friends! What a joy it was to be on our campus this week!

Just a few days ago, nearly 650 children, teenagers and adults descended upon the Christ’s Greenfield campus for our annual Vacation Bible School. It was a marvelous week of learning all about how our amazing Maker created us, loves us, is for us, will never leave us, died and rose for us. What a friend we have in Jesus!

As I was processing all that Jesus did this week, I really wanted to give you a glimpse of some of the amazing things that happened:

Riley, an adorable 3 year old little girl, arrived jumping with excitement on Day 2. I told her how cute she looked that day, in her VBS t-shirt tied with pink ribbons, and she responded, “God made me cute!” How right she is! God spoke life into little Riley and her whole family. This conversation reminded me that even the littlest of God’s children can learn something about who they are, who their God is and how their God made them. You never know who’s listening and watching. May we all strive to be good examples of grace & trust in our Maker!

One of our amazing crew leaders, Jesse, was leading a group of 4th & 5th graders. Early on in the week, he asked for some tips on how to engage the older kids because they just seemed bored. I advised him to take the time to get to know his crew, to listen well, and to spend every moment with them. The next day I followed up with him, and he shared that they all got into the music and the lessons and were completely engaged. By Friday, Jesse felt led by God to give each of these young Jesus-followers a Bible so they could continue their faith journey. What an awesome God we have that directed this young man to give the gift of the Word to these kids!

Landon (7) and Jaime (12) were brought to VBS this year by their aunt so that they could hang out with cousins who attend Christ’s Greenfield and experience the love of Jesus for the first time. Landon attended as a 2nd grader and Jaime volunteered as an assistant crew leader. By day 3, Landon was writing prayers in his Prayer Journal. His first prayer said, “God, sanks (thanks) for always being with me and loving me” and Jaime was jamming out to the Maker Fun Factory music CD every day at home. God is good!

I loved seeing our Youth Band (Pastor Tim & the Music Makers!) get the kids wild and excited for worship. MaryAnn’s energetic gift for dance got the kids revved up with the Holy Spirit as they followed along with each song’s hand motions. There were times when the 125 preschoolers shouted louder than even our 335 elementary kids! Jesus reminded me that worship isn’t about a style, but a life lived glorifying our great Maker in song, prayer, Word and service.

This year’s VBS Leadership Team worked their socks off and did an amazing job of directing and facilitating our record-busting Vacation Bible School. With over 195 volunteers, this week would not have been possible without them. Everyone from our shepherds, station leaders and assistants, snack crew, nursery crew, floaters, sound crew, crew leaders, assistant leads and school and office staff all played a vital role to our VBS success! All 5 of us on the Leadership Team prayed that Jesus would make this week incredible, that His Word would be proclaimed, and that all thoseentering our campus would be touched by Him. He proved His faithfulness in so many ways by sustaining our strength, giving us wisdom in quick decisions, and by keeping us strong in faith to joyfully proclaim that our great Creator is always with us and will never leave us.

I’m already excited for next year’s VBS and I hope that you are too! Recruitment for all positions and the leadership team is actively going on now, so if you have questions about which roles you may be best suited for or would like to join us as we plan for next year, please contact me anytime. Registration for kiddos will be open in January 2018!

Save the date now for next year’s Vacation Bible School, June 11-15, 2018!!!

One Response to VBS 2017… AMAZING!

  • Annie,
During VBS week I was at church very early one morning for a 6:30am men’s Bible study and I found VBS volunteers already at work. Another time I was at church in the evening and again I found VBS volunteers there, hard at work. My question for you guys is, “Don’t you get any sleep during VBS week?” I think not! Thank you very much for your tireless work in making this program a success, to the glory of God!
