Our story starts over 2000 years ago. God cared so much for mankind that He sent His Son to suffer and to die on the cross for us. He suffered punishment in our place for each of us! Our Lord set the example of love and caring for all mankind!
We Care Ministry is a ministry of love and concern that was born almost 14 years ago at Christ’s Greenfield Lutheran Church and School. Out of love that our Lord has shown to us, We Care Ministry cherishes our times of caring for others because We Care.
We Care Ministry works closely with our pastors, however God is our Leader, Director and Comforter. Like the apostles, we have been given a mission. Our We Care Ministers have heard His call; “Come follow Me.”
We provide a listening ear to those in times of need. We are there to do God’s work of caring in the hospitals. We visit those in assisted living facilities. We walk with those who are hurting physically and with those who are experiencing turmoil in their hearts. Our members sit by you, listen, pray, and we cry with you as we are reminded of the words of our Lord who tells us to “love one another.” (John 13:34)
John 13:35 also tells us; “by this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another…” Through our years of caring we have heard many stories, experienced many situations. We pride our ministry and ourselves on confidentially. We are given permission to tell others of the many special things that have come to us.
I am reminded of a very special person; his name was Harvey. Harvey loved farm tractors. He was always wearing his International Harvester ball cap. Now Harvey was at this time 99 years on his journey in this world. Harvey had a few problems driving his car to church so his son thought maybe it was time to take Harvey’s car keys from him. We Care Ministry found Mark Magnuson who volunteered to pick him up and drive him to church every Sunday. Harvey loved the Lord so much and his week just was not the same if he missed sitting in his special seat in the front row of church.
One Sunday Mark came to me at church to ask “where is Harvey, he wasn’t answering his door when I went to pick him up?” Thinking the worst we were prepared to send someone to his home, but when we looked up there was Harvey with a smile as big as his heart. He said “Mark was a little late so I drove here!” We asked him; “We thought your son took your keys:” Harvey smiling said “he did but I had an extra set.” Harvey was called home at the age of 101 years.
Someone from We Care Ministry may have already been at your side. We are only a phone call away from you. Contact the church office (480-892-8314) to have a dedicated We Care Ministry person visit with you in your time of need. Maybe you have a friend or loved one who needs someone to talk and pray with. We are only a phone call away and work closely with our Pastor and leadership staff.
In the past, We Care Ministry has had seminars on death and dying with financial information sponsored by Thrivent Financial. There is support for those who have loved ones suffering from Alzheimer’s and dementia. We Care Ministry sends gift packages to those in the Military.
As you can see our activities are not only visits. In the past We Care Ministry helped to fund and deliver diapers and baby wipes following the destruction and flooding of Katrina. We housed a family whose home was destroyed in a fire.
We Care Ministry will walk with the grieving family during the dark times of the loss of a family member or friend. In the past, We Care Ministry has visited with those who are incarcerated.
We Care Ministry always starts and ends our monthly meetings with prayer and a short meditation. Proverbs 16:3 reminds us to “Commit to the Lord whatever you do and your plans will succeed.” We Care Ministry is committed to the Lord who leads us all in everything that we do.
There are other challenges for us but we cannot do them without YOU! Can you help us set the example? If you would like to join We Care Ministry or have questions please contact Joy Gerhauser at the church office 480-892-8314. You can also contact Deacon Bill Biester. You can look for our We Care Ministry volunteers with the black We Care Ministry shirts.
Blessings to you.
Making A Difference, It’s What We Do.
