LENT: From Ashes to Easter
March 7, 2017
LENT: From Ashes to Easter… Way easier to say than “Quadragesima!” Here we are in the season of Lent. We contemplate who we are before God on Ash Wednesday. We come forward to be reminded of our sins when the ashes hit our foreheads. We sit in those ashes, not being able to see them, yet sometimes being able to feel them. We say good-bye to ‘Alleluia’, and no longer sing the ‘Gloria in excelsis Deo’ in the traditional liturgy. We reflect during this solemn time on our unrighteousness. Maybe we give something up, maybe we pray more, maybe… Continue reading
Love is a Verb… A Child’s Perspective
February 28, 2017
A recent bulletin board at school was inspired by the sermon series, Love is a Verb. Christ’s Greenfield Lutheran School student council members challenged fellow students to share how they were living a life of love at home and at school. They cut out pink, purple, and red hearts and encouraged students to write down specific examples. Here is a sampling. Continue reading
Redefining Marriage
February 23, 2017
I didn’t marry my wife. She didn’t marry me, either. Don’t get me wrong. We’re married. But we didn’t do it. No, the minister didn’t do it, either! We were married, but by the only one Continue reading
Vacation Bible School 2017
February 14, 2017
Close your eyes for a second and imagine this: It’s a beautiful, sunny, summer day, with blue skies and billowy white clouds. It’s warm, but not too hot just yet, about a perfect 85 degrees. It’s early in the morning, where the breeze is pleasant and the quiet air is filled with chirping birds, and a calm stillness that belies the day ahead. Continue reading

Do You Have An Answer?
January 25, 2017
I didn’t have an answer! It was an all too common belief about all this “Jesus stuff” that my distant uncle confronted me with: “The Bible’s accounts of Jesus are just made up stories and myths. How can we trust the New Testament writings when they have been copied and re-copied, translated multiple times; and, we can’t even know for sure that they were really written by anyone who even knew Jesus.” I didn’t have an answer! Continue reading

I’m not a big new year’s resolution guy. I’m resolving things all the time in my life. I don’t need a new calendar year to help me resolve to lose weight, eat healthier and spend more time with my family and in God’s Word. This is a daily resolution that daily must be evaluated. At the same time, good for you if you’ve made a new year’s resolution. I pray Jesus gives you the discipline to daily do what you’ve resolved to do. I pray others are blessed by your resolution. I pray Jesus gives you new eyes to see new beginnings each day because of His mercy and grace. Let me know your resolutions, and I will pray for you. Continue reading
